The launch event of the Project was held on 27 September 2023 with the participation of 209 representatives from various institutions across Türkiye. The opening event started with speeches by Prof. Dr. Halil Hasar, Director of Climate Change, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Directorate of Climate Change, UNDP Türkiye Resident Representative Louisa Vinton, Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, Head of Head of the EU Delegation to Türkiye and Bülent Özcan, Director General for Financial Cooperation and Project Implementation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Directorate for EU Affairs.
Following the opening speeches, the representatives of the pilot provinces selected for the preparation of Local Climate Change Action Plans, Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, Mr. Muhittin Böcek, Mayor of Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler, Secretary General of Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality Mr. Rüstem Keleş, Mayor of Isparta Municipality Mr. Şükrü Başdeğirmen and Mayor of Kastamonu Municipality Mr. Rahmi Galip Vidinlioğlu signed the cooperation protocols at the signing ceremony.
After the speech of Dr. Ramazan Özcan Yıldırım, Deputy Secretary General of Union of Municipalities of Türkiye on climate change at local level, the project details and activities were introduced.
