Together for Climate

About the Project

The overall objective of the project is to support Türkiye in its efforts to combat climate change through increased implementation capacity at the local level, which will ultimately contribute to sustainable, low-carbon, and climate-resilient development. The specific purpose is to improve Türkiye’s local climate change mitigation and adaptation capacity.

Project Partners

This project, which started on May 1, 2023 is funded by the European Union under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance-III (IPA III) Funds and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme. Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye is the Contracting Authority of this Project. The End Recipient of the project is the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Directorate of Climate Change.

Target Groups

The target groups are the public institutions, municipalities, local administrations, regional and provincial directorates, development agencies, chambers, unions , universities, research institutes and civil society organizations. The target groups of the operation include all relevant local stakeholders and citizens.

Components

Component A aims to improve climate risk assessment capacity at local, regional and national levels by strengthening the readiness of local authorities in Türkiye to address the impacts of climate change by supporting city-level climate change vulnerability and risk assessment.

Component B aims to improve local climate action planning capacity by promoting local climate change action planning and implementation capacities through providing a regulatory framework as well as the preparation of climate change action plans in the selected cities.

Component C aims to enhance local decision-making and implementation capacity for climate action by supporting decision-making processes at the local level through the development of interactive tools to be integrated into Climate Portal.

Component D aims to improve public awareness and local stakeholder capabilities and collaboration to implement climate actions by enhancing the technical capacities of municipalities and other local stakeholders in Türkiye to formulate strategies and to design and implement local climate actions and measures.

Component E aims to provide technical assistance to Climate Change Grant Programme by increasing the uptake of climate change plans, actions, and awareness about climate change among local stakeholders at the local level via a grant program.
